Destruct Derby came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1995, developed by Reflections Interactive. It was one of those early N64 titles that leaned into the console's ability to handle a decent amount of on-screen chaos without slowing down too much. At a time when many racing games were about clean laps and perfect lines, this one stood out simply by encouraging you to wreck everything in sight.

You control a single car in an enclosed arena, and the goal is straightforward: smash other vehicles until they can't move, while trying to keep your own car operational. Key mechanics include targeting specific car parts to disable opponents faster, managing damage to avoid your own engine stalling, and using power-ups like turbo boosts for surprise attacks. The pacing is fast and unforgiving; one solid hit can easily take you from contender to scrap metal. It feels raw and immediate, like controlled demolition with a joypad.
