Dexter's Laboratory: Deesaster Strikes came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2001, published by BAM! Entertainment. It was part of that wave of licensed platformers that filled the GBA library, a straightforward action game based on the popular Cartoon Network show. You step directly into the role of the boy genius, Dexter, in a story that kicks off when his sister Dee Dee accidentally unleashes chaos in his secret lab.
You control Dexter through a series of side-scrolling levels, running and jumping across platforms while avoiding hazards and robotic enemies. The main goal is to retrieve your scattered inventions, which involves navigating the lab's many rooms, each with its own environmental puzzles. You use a variety of gadgets, like a shrink ray to access small passages and a rocket pack for higher jumps, to progress. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly in later stages, especially during boss fights. It feels like a frantic race through a collapsing home filled with science gone wrong.
