Play Diablo (prototype) Online
Navigate dungeons, battle imps and skeletons, break barrels for loot, and manage your gear in this prototype version of Diablo for Game Boy.
Diablo for the Game Boy was an unreleased prototype, a curious attempt to shrink the dark fantasy of Blizzard's PC hit onto Nintendo's handheld. It existed as a technical test, a glimpse of what might have been during an era when developers were still figuring out how to translate complex mouse-driven games to a simple D-pad and two buttons. The ambition was clear, even if the final execution remained unfinished and unseen by the public for years.
You control a lone warrior navigating cramped, tile-based dungeons one screen at a time. Your goal is to descend through these labyrinthine floors, fighting off low-resolution imps and skeletons with a simple, repetitive attack. You break barrels for gold and potions, managing a very limited inventory in the hopes of finding slightly better gear. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, with each new room presenting a small, contained threat. It feels like a stark, minimalist interpretation of the formula, where every skeleton encounter demands your full attention on the small screen.
