Diablo on the NES was never officially released, but it's an interesting piece of gaming history that exists only as an unreleased prototype. It would have been developed by Blizzard North and published by Electronic Arts, bringing the dark fantasy of the PC original to Nintendo's 8-bit console during an era dominated by simpler action and platforming games.
You control a lone hero descending level by level into a labyrinthine dungeon, fighting skeletons, zombies, and other monsters with a sword or bow. The main goal is to defeat the final boss, Diablo, by navigating through randomly generated floors, managing limited inventory, and collecting better gear from chests and fallen enemies. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is steep, with permanent death a constant threat. It feels tense and isolating, like every corner could be your last.
