Diddy Kong Pilot came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2002, developed by Rare and published by Nintendo. It was part of that early GBA era where developers were still figuring out how to translate console-style experiences onto a handheld, often resulting in games that felt ambitious but a little rough around the edges. This one started life as a sequel to the SNES' Diddy Kong Racing before shifting into a more arcade-focused flying racer.
You control Diddy Kong or one of several other Kong characters, piloting a small plane through obstacle-filled courses. The main goal is to finish each race in first place, but you also collect bananas and use items like homing missiles or speed boosts to gain an advantage. Signature mechanics include performing aerial tricks off ramps for a temporary speed burst and navigating tight, multi-level tracks that require precise flying. The pacing is fast, and some later courses get quite challenging with narrow gaps and aggressive opponents. It feels like a chaotic, slightly janky arcade game that rewards memorization and quick reflexes.
