Game Overview

Dig Dug II is a weird little NES action-puzzle game where you don't just inflate enemies like in the first one—you also carve up the island itself. The first few minutes feel familiar, but then you realize you can break the ground into chunks, dropping enemies into the water below. It's oddly satisfying when you pull off a big collapse.

The controls are simple, but the strategy isn't. You have to balance inflating enemies for points with just destroying the land under them to survive. Sometimes you'll misjudge a crack and accidentally strand yourself, which is frustrating but also kind of funny.

Dig Dug II doesn't look much different from the arcade original, but the island-destroying mechanic gives it its own identity. It's not as polished as some NES games, but there's something charming about its janky physics and the way enemies flail as the ground crumbles beneath them.
