Dogou Souken is one of those arcade games where you just grab the controls and immediately feel the chaos. You pilot these chunky, screen-filling mechs that move way faster than they look like they should—dodging enemy fire while your own weapons light up the screen. The first time I played, I got wrecked in about 30 seconds because I kept forgetting the dash button existed.
It’s got that perfect arcade vibe where everything’s a little overwhelming at first—bullets everywhere, explosions, weird enemy designs that look like rejected Gundam villains—but once you get the rhythm down, weaving through the madness feels incredible. The mechs have this satisfying weight to them, like you’re really piloting a hunk of metal instead of some floaty sprite.
Also, whoever designed the explosions deserves a raise. Half the fun is just seeing how much of the screen you can fill with fire before your own mech gets caught in the crossfire. It’s the kind of game where you lose track of how many continues you’ve burned through because you keep saying “one more try.”
