Drakton came out in 1992 for arcades, developed by Arcade Dynamics. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling action games that filled arcades in the early 90s, sitting alongside titles that emphasized fast movement and fantasy themes. The cabinet wasn't the most common one, but when you found it, the attract mode with the little dragon breathing fire definitely caught your eye.
You control a small dragon that starts with simple claw attacks but gradually gains the ability to shoot fireballs, first one at a time and later in wider spreads. The goal is to fight through screen after screen of knights, archers, and other fantasy creatures to reach and defeat a boss at the end of each stage. Key mechanics include collecting power-up orbs to enhance your fire breath and carefully managing your position to avoid enemy projectiles. The pacing is aggressive, with enemies swarming from both sides, and the difficulty is unforgiving; mistakes are punished quickly. It feels frantic and satisfying when you clear a tough section by filling the screen with flame.
