I picked up Eragon on the Game Boy Advance back in 2006, a time when licensed games were everywhere and handhelds were full of fantasy adventures. Vivendi Universal Games published it, and it was one of those titles you’d grab if you were into the books or just wanted something new to play on the go. It didn’t redefine the genre, but it offered a solid, straightforward experience that fit right in with other action RPGs of that era.

You control Eragon, the young Dragon Rider, as he explores screen by screen, fighting enemies with his sword and later a bow. The main goal is to follow the story, battling through dungeons and outdoor areas while gathering items and upgrading your gear. Combat is real time; you tap buttons to swing your sword or shoot arrows, and you can use magic spells for area attacks or healing. The pacing is fairly brisk, though some sections feel repetitive, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with tougher enemy groups. It feels like a competent, if unremarkable, adventure that captures the spirit of its source material without demanding too much from the player.
