Play Fantasia Online
Guide Mickey Mouse through side-scrolling stages, defeat enemies, conduct music notes, and tackle environmental hazards while keeping time with the rhythm in Fantasia on Sega Genesis.
Fantasia came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that wave of movie tie-ins that tried to capture the magic of the source material, in this case Disney's animated film, but with the hardware limits and design sensibilities of the early 90s. It wasn't the flashiest title on the system, but it had a distinct look that tried to translate the film's artistic ambition into pixels.
You control Mickey Mouse, moving him through side scrolling stages based on segments from the film. Your main goal is to clear each musical level by defeating enemies and environmental hazards, all while keeping time with the background score. Mickey attacks by conducting, which sends a musical note projectile forward; he can also perform a ground pound to break certain objects or stun foes. The game is built around rhythm and timing, with enemies often moving or attacking in sync with the music, and the difficulty can spike sharply in later stages. It feels like a strange, sometimes frustrating, but always earnest attempt to turn an orchestra conductor into an action hero.
