Fate: Gates of Dawn is one of those classic Amiga RPGs that feels like stumbling into a weird dream—literally. You play as Winwood, a record shop owner who dozes off one day and wakes up trapped in a fantasy nightmare. Some old wizard tells you the only way out is to take down a tyrant mage named Thardan, and suddenly you’re knee-deep in turn-based battles and party management.
The first thing you’ll notice is how much it leans into that old-school Wizardry vibe—first-person dungeon crawling, a ridiculous number of character classes (ever wanted to play as a Banshee or Valkyrie?), and parties you can split up like some kind of tactical overlord. The day/night cycle actually matters too—cast a rain spell, and suddenly fewer monsters bother you. It’s clunky in that charming ‘90s way, but if you’re into deep, grindy RPGs with weird lore, this one’s a trip.
Just don’t expect to wake up from this dream anytime soon.
