Play Field Combat (J) [p1] Online
Command futuristic forces in a battlefield, capturing enemy units and calling in airstrikes.
Field Combat is a 1985 Nintendo Entertainment System release from Jaleco, later re-released by Hamster Corporation. It arrived during the NES's early years, a time when many developers were experimenting with strategy and action hybrids. The game stands as one of several attempts to blend tactical thinking with real-time movement on the console.
You control a commander who must capture all enemy bases on each screen. Movement is grid-based; you direct your unit across a battlefield, one square at a time. A key mechanic involves capturing enemy soldiers by surrounding them, which turns them to your side and expands your forces. You can also call in airstrikes to clear paths or weaken opposition, though these are limited. The pace is deliberate, requiring careful positioning rather than quick reflexes, and the difficulty comes from managing your growing army while the enemy constantly respawns. It feels like directing a small, chaotic war from a cramped command post.
