Play Field Combat (Japan) Online
You slog through molasses-paced battlefields, chucking grenades and planting flags to claim enemy bases while dodging bullets from all sides—it’s janky but weirdly rewarding once it clicks.

Field Combat came out in 1985 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed and published by Jaleco. It was one of those early NES titles that tried something a little different, a top-down action game set in a warzone instead of a fantasy or space setting. It didn't have the polish of some other games from that era, but it had its own distinct, clunky charm.
You control a lone soldier whose goal is to capture all the enemy bases on each map. You move from screen to screen, throwing grenades at enemy soldiers and tanks while trying to plant your flag on their headquarters. The pacing is slow and deliberate; you have to be careful not to get surrounded, as enemies respawn quickly. The main challenge comes from managing the constant threats while methodically working your way across the battlefield. It feels like a tense, strategic crawl where every cleared screen is a small victory.
