First Samurai on the Amiga is one of those games that looks simple at first—you're a lone warrior slicing through enemies with a sword—but then throws curveballs at you. The controls feel a little stiff at first, but once you get used to them, the combat has this satisfying weight to it. You’ll pick up magic scrolls, fight weird floating heads, and even ride a horse at one point (which, honestly, handles about as well as you’d expect from a 16-bit game).
The second disk ramps things up with tougher enemies and some seriously frustrating platforming sections. Still, the pixel art holds up, especially the way your sword slashes leave these glowing trails. Just don’t be surprised if you die a lot before figuring out the timing.
