Fist of the North Star came out on the NES in 1986, published by Toei Animation. It was one of many licensed games from that era, based on the popular manga and anime series. You control Kenshiro, the main character, in a side scrolling beat 'em up set in a post apocalyptic world.

You move from left to right, punching and kicking enemies until they explode in a satisfying burst. The main goal is to rescue your kidnapped love interest, Yuria, by fighting through waves of thugs and defeating screen filling bosses. Signature mechanics include a time limit that pressures you to keep moving, and special attacks executed with specific button combinations. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is high, with relentless enemy spawns and limited continues. It feels like a frantic, sometimes unfair brawl where every punch matters.
