FixEight came out in 1992 for arcades, developed by Toaplan. It's a run and gun game from that era when developers were pushing the hardware to handle more characters and chaos on screen at once. You pick one of eight different characters, each with their own weapon style, and move through a series of levels set in a futuristic conflict.

You control a soldier fighting through waves of enemies, clearing each screen before moving to the next. The main goal is to survive the onslaught, rescue prisoners, and defeat the stage bosses. Key mechanics include picking up power-ups that change your weapon's spread and strength, and sometimes hopping into a vehicle that limits your firing direction but offers more firepower. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can spike quickly with enemy numbers and bullet patterns. It feels like a constant scramble for better weapons while trying not to get cornered.
