Frankenstein came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed and published by DTMC. It was one of those mid-90s releases that tried to do something a little different with the hardware, leaning into a darker, more atmospheric style than a lot of the platform's brighter, faster-paced games.

You control both Dr. Frankenstein and his creation, switching between them to progress. The doctor solves environmental puzzles, collects items, and avoids direct confrontation, while the monster smashes through enemies and obstacles with brute force. The game is structured through screen-by-screen exploration of a gothic castle and its laboratories, with a heavy emphasis on finding keys and activating mechanisms to open new paths. It moves at a deliberate, sometimes sluggish pace, and the challenge comes more from navigation and enemy placement than complex mechanics. Playing it feels like carefully navigating a clunky, dangerous machine, where every successful room cleared is a small victory.
