Play From TV Animation Slam Dunk Online

Dribble past defenders with tiny Sakuragi, brick some shots, then finally nail that dunk—the crowd’s 8-bit cheers somehow feel real when you pull ahead in the last seconds. Rukawa’s still unstoppable though.

Game Overview

From TV Animation Slam Dunk came out on Game Boy in 1995, published by Bandai. It was one of those many anime tie-ins that filled the portable library back then, a time when you took what you could get if you wanted to play as your favorite characters on the go. This one let you step onto the court with Hanamichi Sakuragi and the Shohoku High basketball team.

You control Sakuragi through a series of basketball matches viewed from a top-down perspective. The main objective is to win each game by outscoring the opposing team within the time limit. You dribble the ball up the court, pass to open teammates, and attempt shots or drives to the basket. Signature mechanics include timed button presses for shooting accuracy and a stamina meter that depletes with sprints and jumps, forcing you to manage your energy. The pacing is quick, with games that can turn quickly if you make a few mistakes on defense. It feels like a simplified but earnest attempt to capture the tension of a close game in those small, pixelated spaces.
