Dribble past defenders with exaggerated anime flair, pull off gravity-defying dunks, and trash-talk your friends in this over-the-top SNES take on Slam Dunk—physics don’t stand a chance here.

From TV Animation Slam Dunk: Dream Team - Shueisha Limited came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Bandai. It was part of that wave of mid-90s anime tie-ins that tried to capture the energy of the show in a playable form. You got a lot of these sports games back then, but this one was squarely for fans of the manga and anime series.
You control one of the main characters from the Shohoku High basketball team, like Hanamichi Sakuragi or Kaede Rukawa, in two-on-two or three-on-three matches. The main objective is to outscore your opponent before the timer runs out. Signature mechanics include pulling off special moves, which are activated with specific button combinations and result in highly stylized, super-powered shots and dunks that play out in short cutscenes. The game also features a simple passing system and an energy meter that depletes as you use your best moves. The pacing is fast and arcade-like, with very little regard for realistic basketball rules. It feels like controlling a cartoon version of a sports highlight reel.
