Game Overview

G.I. Joe: The Atlantis Factor came out for the NES in 1992, developed by KID and published by Capcom. It was part of that wave of licensed games that tried to do something a little more ambitious than the usual run-and-gun formula, arriving late in the console's life when developers were pushing the hardware in interesting ways.

You control one of several G.I. Joe team members, each with unique weapons and abilities, like Snake Eyes' sword or Roadblock's heavy machine gun. The goal is to fight through Cobra's forces across six levels to stop their latest scheme. You explore the game screen by screen, backtracking at times to use a specific character's skill to open a new path, and you collect power-ups to upgrade your weapons and health. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is significant, especially with the limited continues. It feels like a methodical, slightly clunky action game where planning your route and conserving health matter more than reflexes.
