G-Stream G2020 came out in 2005 for arcades, developed by Arcade Innovators. It was part of that late wave of arcade shooters, right when the scene was shifting more toward home consoles, but it still had that sharp, focused energy you only really got from dropping a coin into a cabinet.
You pilot a nimble fighter through vertically scrolling stages packed with enemy craft and intricate bullet patterns. The main goal is survival; you blast through waves of foes, face screen-filling bosses, and collect power-ups to enhance your ship's firepower. Two mechanics define the flow: a rapid-fire primary shot for clearing smaller enemies and a charged beam that you hold to unleash on larger threats or clustered formations. The pacing is relentless, with difficulty that escalates quickly but fairly, demanding quick reflexes and pattern recognition. It feels like threading a needle at high speed, over and over, with that satisfying hum of lasers and explosions keeping you locked in.
