GameBooster 64 V1.1 is one of those weird, unofficial N64 cartridges that messes with ROMs in ways they probably weren’t meant to be messed with. At first glance, it looks like a bootleg—because it kind of is—but there’s something oddly charming about how it tweaks familiar games. Expect glitches, sure, but also some unexpected speed boosts and cheats baked right in.
I popped it into my N64 expecting it to crash immediately, but it actually loaded up a modified version of a classic game with smoother frame rates. Then I tried another ROM, and suddenly all the characters were giant. It’s janky, unpredictable, and definitely not polished, but if you’ve played the originals to death, this might be the weird nostalgia trip you didn’t know you wanted.
Just don’t expect it to work perfectly every time—half the fun is seeing what bizarre thing it’ll do next.
