Man, Garou Densetsu – Shukumei no Tatakai (or Fatal Fury if you're not in Japan) takes me back. This Sega Genesis port of SNK's arcade brawler was my introduction to Terry Bogard and the whole two-plane fighting thing—where you could suddenly hop between foreground and background to dodge attacks. At first I kept forgetting to use it, but once it clicked? Game changer.
The pixel art still holds up, especially when you land a perfectly timed Power Wave or watch Geese Howard do that ridiculous laughing animation. Yeah, it's simpler than later fighting games, but there's something about the weight of the punches and the way special moves actually feel like they have impact. My brother and I must've spent hours trying to outdo each other's Burn Knuckles back in the day.
If you've ever wondered where King of Fighters started, this is basically its scrappy, leather-jacket-wearing ancestor. Still fun to boot up when you want that raw '90s arcade vibe.
