Back in 2005, Midway released Gauntlet & Rampart for the Game Boy Advance, bundling two classic arcade experiences into one portable cart. It was a solid value for players who wanted some variety during the GBA's later years, offering both cooperative dungeon crawling and solo castle defense without much fuss.
In Gauntlet, you pick a fantasy hero like a warrior or elf and delve into maze-like dungeons, slashing monsters and hunting for keys and food to survive. Rampart shifts the focus entirely; you build stone walls around your castle, position cannons inside the compound, and then frantically repair breaches between waves of invading ships. The pace swings from deliberate exploration to tense, timed reconstruction, and both games demand quick decisions under pressure. It feels satisfying to switch between such different styles of play on the same handheld.
