I picked up Gem Smashers for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a puzzle platformer from Metro3D. It was one of those games that didn't get a lot of attention, but it had a certain charm that fit right in with the GBA's library of quirky, colorful titles.
You control a bouncing creature, moving screen by screen through a series of caves. The goal is to clear each area by destroying all the gems that match your current color while avoiding hazards like skull tiles. You can change your color by touching special switches, some of which are hidden behind breakable rocks, adding a light exploration element. The pacing is methodical, but the difficulty ramps up quickly, especially during the boss fights that test your timing and pattern recognition. It feels satisfying to bounce through a level, planning each move carefully to avoid getting stuck or crushed.
