Game Overview
Gettysburg: The Turning Point is one of those deep, meaty war sims that makes you feel like you're hunched over a table full of maps and tiny wooden blocks. It covers all three brutal days of the Civil War's most famous battle, with each turn representing an hour of real time—so yeah, you're in for the long haul.
The ruleset is surprisingly flexible—you can go full grognard with the advanced rules or keep it simple, and the AI puts up a decent fight if you don't have a human opponent. What I like is how victory isn't just about slaughter; holding key terrain matters just as much as body counts. By the end, you'll be muttering things like "Damn it, I should've reinforced Cemetery Hill earlier" like a proper armchair general.
It's definitely a product of its time (hello, Amiga), but there's something satisfying about watching those little pixelated brigades push and pull across the battlefield. Just don't expect to finish in one sitting.
