Play Gettysburg - The Turning Point Online
Command Union or Confederate forces in this turn-based strategy game, managing troops and planning tactics to win the Battle of Gettysburg.
Gettysburg: The Turning Point came out in 1986 from Strategic Simulations, Inc. for MS-DOS. It was one of many serious war games from that era, a time when complex strategy titles were finding a dedicated audience on home computers. The game focused entirely on the Battle of Gettysburg, offering a detailed, turn-based simulation of the three-day conflict.
You command either the Union or Confederate armies, directing brigades and divisions across a hex-based map of the Pennsylvania countryside. Your main objective is to achieve a historical victory or alter the course of the battle through your decisions. Key mechanics include managing troop morale and fatigue, utilizing terrain for defensive bonuses, and coordinating artillery barrages to soften enemy lines. The pacing is deliberate, demanding careful planning as a single misstep can lead to a disastrous rout. It feels like conducting a fragile, bloody orchestra where every order counts.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
