Game Overview

Championship Manager 2 was the first real glow-up for the series—still the same addictive football management sim at its core, but now with SVGA graphics that made it feel way more modern in 1995. The photorealistic stadium backgrounds were a nice touch, though let’s be honest, most of us spent 90% of our time staring at menus anyway.

They tried something wild with Clive Tyldesley’s voice commentary, which sounded cool in theory… until you heard the same five lines repeat every match. You either turned it off after an hour or learned to love the weird robotic delivery of "AND IT’S A GOAL!" at half speed—because yeah, the game crawled if you left commentary on.

Biggest actual upgrade? Finally getting Scottish leagues (and a choice of which country to manage in). Shame you could only run one at a time, but it was progress. At the end of the day, it still played like classic CM—spreadsheets disguised as football, addictive as ever, just with slightly nicer pixels. If you missed this one back in the day, it’s a fascinating time capsule of ‘90s football gaming ambition.
