I first played The Godfather on the Amiga back in 1991, a game developed by U.S. Gold and based on the film. You control a character working for the Corleone family, moving through the city from a top down perspective to take on missions. The main goal is to expand the family's influence by completing jobs, from collecting protection money to carrying out hits on rival gang members. Key mechanics include driving cars for getaways, engaging in shootouts with other mobsters, and managing your reputation across different neighborhoods. The pacing can be uneven, with moments of tense action followed by slower navigation, and the difficulty spikes during some of the more demanding combat sequences. It feels like a gritty, hands on attempt to live out a mob story from that era.
