Electronic Arts released The Godfather: Mob Wars for the PlayStation Portable in 2006, a time when handheld gaming was really hitting its stride. You play as a custom-made enforcer working your way up the Corleone family. The main goal is to seize control of New York by taking over rival rackets, which involves extorting businesses, assassinating key targets, and engaging in turf wars. Signature mechanics include a robust hand-to-hand combat system where you can grab, punch, and throw opponents, as well as drive-by shootings during hectic car chases. The pacing is aggressive; you are constantly balancing between earning respect and watching your back. It feels like a gritty, hands-on scramble for power in a world where every ally could turn out to be a threat.
