God of War: Chains of Olympus brings Kratos to the PSP, and honestly, it’s impressive how much they packed into a handheld. You’re thrown right into the chaos—hacking through Persian soldiers with the Blades of Chaos, dodging attacks by using both shoulder buttons (takes a second to get used to), and smashing crates for red orbs like it’s a reflex. The quick-time events are as brutal as ever, and yeah, you’ll still be mashing circle to rip wings off harpies.

It’s a prequel, so the story’s smaller-scale than the console games, but it’s got that same weight—Kratos isn’t just fighting armies, he’s dealing with gods messing with his head. The new magic spells, like the Efreet fire blast, feel satisfying when you’re swarmed, and the puzzles are just tricky enough to make you pause between bloodbaths. The health and magic upgrades (Gorgon eyes, Phoenix feathers) are hidden just out of reach sometimes, so you’ll backtrack when you get new abilities.

For a PSP game, the spectacle holds up—the boss fights are cinematic, even if the camera pulls back a bit. Just don’t expect the analog nub to feel as precise as a full stick. Chains of Olympus proves Kratos doesn’t need a big screen to wreck everything in his path.
