God of War: Chains of Olympus came out in 2008 for the PlayStation Portable, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony. It was one of the more ambitious titles on the PSP, bringing the scale and intensity of the console God of War games to a handheld, which felt pretty impressive at the time.
You control Kratos, the Spartan warrior, as he fights through mythological Greece to stop the goddess Persephone from destroying the world. The combat relies on his chained blades, the Blades of Chaos, which you use for light and heavy attacks, along with magic and context-sensitive quick-time finishers. You explore linear levels, solve environmental puzzles, and face large bosses that require pattern recognition and timing. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty is challenging but fair. It feels satisfying to pull off combos and execute powerful moves on the go.
