Game Overview
Chains of Olympus came out on the PlayStation Portable in 2008, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony. It was one of those games that made you appreciate what the PSP could really do, pushing the hardware to deliver an experience that felt much bigger than the handheld it was on.
You control Kratos, the Spartan warrior, through a prequel story set before the original God of War. Your goal is to stop the goddess Persephone and the titan Atlas from destroying Olympus. You explore ancient ruins and underworld caverns, fighting mythological creatures with the Blades of Chaos. Combat relies on chaining light and heavy attacks, blocking, and timely dodges. You also solve environmental puzzles, often involving moving blocks or timing lever pulls, and collect red orbs to upgrade your weapons and magic. The pacing is aggressive, with little downtime between intense combat and exploration. It feels powerful and fluid, like you're directing a brutal ballet of destruction on a surprisingly capable little screen.
