Game Overview

God of War: Chains of Olympus came out in 2008 for the PlayStation Portable, developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony. It was one of the more ambitious action games on the system, bringing the console series' scale and spectacle to a handheld. At the time, it felt impressive just to see those cinematic set pieces running on something you could carry in your pocket.

You control Kratos, the Spartan warrior, through a prequel story set before the original God of War. Your goal is to stop the goddess Persephone and the Morpheus, the god of dreams, from plunging the world into eternal sleep. You move through fixed camera environments, battling mythological creatures with his chained Blades of Chaos. Combat relies on light and heavy attacks, dodging, and grabbing enemies for brutal finishers. You also solve environmental puzzles, climb walls, and collect red orbs to upgrade your weapons and magic. The pacing is brisk, with a good mix of exploration and intense combat sequences. It feels satisfying to pull off long combos and unleash magic like the Sun Shield against larger groups of enemies.
