Game Overview

Golden Sun: The Lost Age came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2003, developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo. It was a direct sequel to the first Golden Sun, continuing the story right where the original left off, and it arrived during a time when the GBA was full of deep, engaging RPGs that really pushed what the handheld could do.

You control a new party of Adepts, characters who wield Psynergy, which is a form of elemental magic used both in turn-based combat and for solving environmental puzzles. Your main goal is to light the four Elemental Lighthouses to prevent the world from stagnating. A lot of the game involves exploring overworld maps and intricate dungeons, using your growing suite of Psynergy abilities to move obstacles, reveal hidden paths, or manipulate the environment. You also collect and summon powerful creatures called Djinn, which can be set to characters to change their classes and stats or unleashed in battle for special attacks. The pacing is deliberate, with a good mix of exploration, puzzle solving, and combat that can be challenging without feeling unfair. It feels rewarding to see a previously blocked path and know you finally have the right tool to proceed.
