Gradius 2 [hM04] (J) is one of those NES shooters that feels punishing but fair—if you can memorize enemy patterns. The Vic Viper handles smoothly, but one hit strips all your upgrades, which hurts when you're deep into a level.
Early on, you're picking power-ups from that classic Gradius bar—speed, missiles, options—but the game throws so much at you that it's easy to misjudge and lose everything. The second stage with those rotating fire pillars still gives me trouble.
It's a solid sequel, though. The weapon combinations feel meaningful, and the challenge keeps you coming back. Just don't expect mercy.
