Play Great Soccer Online
You control chunky 8-bit players in chaotic matches where slide tackles go wrong and keepers either pull off miracles or whiff completely—then it’s straight to nerve-wracking penalties. Brazil’s speedsters tear past defenders while Italy’s backline just won’t budge.

Great Soccer came out for the Sega Master System in 1985, a time when home consoles were just starting to offer more complex sports simulations. Sega developed and published it, aiming to capture the feel of the sport with the hardware available. It was one of the earlier attempts to bring a full soccer experience to an 8-bit system, competing with other basic sports titles of the era.
You control a team of players, moving them up and down the field to pass, shoot, and tackle. The main objective is simple: score more goals than the opponent. Signature mechanics include a slide tackle that often sends players flying, and a goalkeeper who either makes spectacular saves or misses entirely. The pacing is fast, and matches can quickly turn chaotic, especially when a breakaway leads to a one-on-one chance. It feels unpredictable and a little rough, but scoring a goal after a messy scramble is genuinely satisfying.
