Game Overview
Gunship on the Genesis is one of those old-school helicopter sims that somehow makes flying a chopper feel both clunky and weirdly satisfying. You start off picking from a handful of missions—some are straightforward attack runs, others have you sneaking behind enemy lines. The controls take a minute to get used to (good luck nailing that first landing), but once you do, there’s something oddly addictive about lining up a perfect rocket strike on a tank column.
The graphics are definitely of their time—blocky terrain, simple sprites—but the sense of speed when you’re skimming low over the trees still holds up. And yeah, the enemy AI isn’t exactly genius, but dodging flak while your damage indicators flash red keeps things tense. If you’ve got patience for retro sims, this one’s a solid time capsule from when flight games were more about grit than glam.
