Hat Trick Hero 2 is one of those weird, over-the-top SNES soccer games Japan got while the rest of us were stuck with more serious sports sims. You pick a star player—some of these guys look like they wandered in from a fighting game—and then just boot the ball so hard the goalie goes flying into the crowd. It’s ridiculous in the best way.
The controls are simple, but timing matters—hold the shot button too long and you’ll sky it over the bar. The animations are janky in that classic 16-bit way, especially when the keeper ragdolls into the stands. There’s something satisfying about seeing how far you can launch the poor guy.
Wish we’d gotten this one outside Japan—it’s the kind of dumb fun that makes you laugh more than it tests your soccer skills. Definitely a hidden gem if you like your sports games with zero realism.
