Hat Trick Hero came out on the Super Nintendo in 1992, published by Taito. It was part of that early wave of SNES sports games, sitting alongside titles that were still figuring out how to use the hardware for something more than just basic arcade action.
You control a single soccer player, moving up the field screen by screen, trying to score goals against increasingly stubborn keepers. The main objective is straightforward: just put the ball in the net. Signature mechanics include charging up your shot with a power meter and aiming carefully to knock the goalie backward, often sending him stumbling comically into the net. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty ramps up noticeably as you advance; later keepers block almost everything unless your aim and timing are perfect. It feels silly and satisfying, like a playground fantasy of unstoppable power shots.
