Game Overview

Hatris came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Bullet-Proof Software. It was one of those puzzle games that felt right at home on the handheld, a simple concept you could pick up and play in short bursts between other things. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid, focused experience during a time when the Game Boy library was growing with all sorts of inventive titles.

You control a pair of disembodied hands at the bottom of the screen, catching hats that fall from above. Your goal is to stack five identical hats in a row, either horizontally or vertically, to make them disappear. The challenge comes from managing the flow; you can rotate the hats as they fall and must decide quickly where to place each one. The pace steadily increases, and the screen fills up faster than you expect, demanding quick decisions and spatial awareness. It feels like a constant, pleasant scramble to stay ahead of the chaos.
