Heart of China is this wild little adventure game from the Amiga era where you play as Jake "Lucky" Masters, a washed-up WWI pilot hired to rescue a kidnapped heiress from a warlord’s fortress. It’s got that pulpy 1930s vibe—think Indiana Jones meets old-school Hong Kong action flicks, complete with ninjas, shady deals in back alleys, and at least one very bad decision involving a rickshaw.

The gameplay’s classic point-and-click, but with a twist: you can actually screw up. Like, permanently. Some dialogue choices straight-up get you killed, and there are multiple ways to solve puzzles (some smarter than others). The digitized actors layered over painted backgrounds give it this weirdly cool, slightly uncanny look—very of its time, but it works for the melodrama.

Oh, and there are these janky arcade sequences (flying a biplane, mostly) that you can thankfully skip after failing a few times. Honestly, the real challenge is not getting distracted by the over-the-top romance subplot while you’re supposed to be, you know, saving someone’s life.
