Hero’s Quest on the Amiga is one of those games that just oozes charm—even if the graphics are pixelated and the typing interface feels a little old-school now. You roll into Spielburg, this quirky little town where centaurs plow fields and humans mostly just drink beer, and immediately get roped into being the local hero. Brigands are causing trouble, Baba Yaga’s lurking somewhere, and honestly, half the townsfolk seem like they’d sell you out for a copper piece.

What’s cool is how much your class choice matters. Pick a fighter, and you’ll brawl your way through problems. Go thief, and suddenly lockpicking and sneaking become your thing. Mages? Yeah, good luck not blowing yourself up with spells at first. The game doesn’t hold your hand—if you want to get better at climbing, you’d better find something to climb. A lot.

Combat’s this weird timed mini-game where you’re frantically picking "parry" before an ogre caves your skull in, and yeah, you’ll need to sleep and eat unless you want your hero to pass out mid-quest. Some puzzles have totally different solutions depending on your class, which makes replaying it actually feel fresh. Just don’t expect the thieves’ guild to give you a warm welcome.

It’s janky in that classic Sierra way, but there’s something about the mix of RPG stats and adventure game nonsense that still works. You’ll either love it or rage-quit after the third time a goblin stabs you in the back.
