Game Overview

Hero’s Quest (later renamed Quest for Glory) was way ahead of its time—it’s basically an RPG and adventure game mashed together, with actual consequences for how you play. You pick between fighter, thief, or magic user, and that choice actually matters. Fighters can brawl their way through problems, thieves sneak around, and magic users… well, they set things on fire a lot. But here’s the cool part: you’re not locked into one playstyle. If you train enough, your clumsy warrior can eventually pick locks or cast spells, which makes replaying it feel totally different.

What really stuck with me was how alive the world felt. Time passes, shops close at night, and if you don’t eat or sleep, you’ll just collapse in the street. Skills level up naturally—swing a sword enough, and you get stronger; fail at picking pockets repeatedly, and… let’s just say the town guards aren’t forgiving. Also, your hero barely talks, which is weirdly immersive. You type commands like "ask about brigands," and NPCs react like you’re an actual stranger, not some chatty protagonist. It’s janky by modern standards, but there’s nothing else quite like it.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
