Hey You, Pikachu! came out on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, developed by Nintendo themselves. It was one of those late 90s experiments that felt genuinely new, using the Voice Recognition Unit accessory to let you actually talk to Pikachu. It wasn't a typical adventure game; it was more like a digital pet with a lot more personality and a lot more bugs.

You play as a kid who finds Pikachu in the woods, and your goal is to befriend it by helping it with daily tasks. You use the microphone to give Pikachu commands, like telling it to fish in the river or gather berries from bushes. The game progresses through a series of small, self contained activities, such as cooking meals together or exploring different areas like the forest or a meadow. Pikachu doesn't always listen, though; sometimes it just stares at you or does its own thing, which makes the whole experience feel unpredictable. The pacing is slow, almost meditative, and the difficulty comes more from patience than skill. It feels like trying to cooperate with a stubborn but adorable friend.
