High Speed for the NES came out in 1991, published by Taito. It was part of that wave of late-era NES games that tried to squeeze a little more out of the hardware, offering a straightforward arcade-style racing experience without much fuss.
You control a small, simple car from a top-down perspective, weaving through dense traffic on a multi-lane highway. The main goal is to survive as long as possible while racking up points; you dodge other vehicles, avoid oil slicks, and occasionally refuel at gas stations before your tank runs dry. The screen scrolls continuously, and the traffic patterns become increasingly unpredictable and aggressive. It feels frantic and tense, a test of reflexes where one wrong move sends you spinning off the road.
