Hippodrome is this weird little arcade gem where you pick a gladiator—just two dudes in loincloths, really—and throw them against monsters straight out of mythology. First fight, you're dodging a dragon's tail swipes thinking "how is this fair?" but somehow your dinky sword does the trick.
Between rounds, there's this janky shop where you can grab better gear if you've scraped together enough coins. I always went for the health upgrades because that scorpion-man's sting is brutal. And yeah, a buddy can jump in to fight you anytime—winner keeps going, loser watches. Kind of mean, honestly.
It's simple, kinda clunky, but there's something about beating that smug wizard in the final round that feels amazing. Just don't expect deep combat—you've got left, right, jump, and one attack button. Mutant Fighter improved on it later, but this one's got that weird charm.
