Hissatsu Doujou Yaburi is one of those NES games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day, which is a shame because it’s got this weirdly satisfying loop of kicking down doors and beating up entire dojos. You pick your fighter—I always went with the judo guy—and then it’s just you versus a room full of angry martial artists. No fancy combos, just good old-fashioned brawling where timing matters more than button mashing.
The first time I played, I got wrecked by some dude with a staff in the second dojo. Turns out you’ve gotta watch for weapons—they’ll mess you up fast. The pixel art’s rough in that charming late-80s way, and the sound effects are hilariously crunchy when you land a solid hit. Beating a dojo master feels like an actual achievement, especially when they pull out some ridiculous spinning kick you didn’t see coming.
It’s not deep, but that’s the point. You’ll probably finish it in an afternoon, but you’ll keep coming back just to see if you can clear the later dojos without losing a round. Perfect for when you want that arcade-style rush without memorizing a million moves.
