Game Overview
Holy Magic Century (or "G" as some call it) is one of those N64 RPGs that flew under the radar but deserves way more love. You start off as this young mage-in-training, and right away the spell system grabs you—instead of just picking attacks from a menu, you actually draw runes with the control stick to cast magic. Took me a few tries to get the motions right, but pulling off a perfect firestorm never gets old.
The world feels surprisingly big for an N64 game, with these misty forests and crumbling temples hiding secrets everywhere. Combat's turn-based but keeps you on your toes—enemies hit hard if you're not careful, and some spells combo in weird ways you have to experiment with. Story's got that classic "chosen one" vibe but with enough twists to stay interesting.
It's janky in that late-90s N64 way (good luck reading some of the tiny text), but there's real charm here if you like slower-paced RPGs with personality. The soundtrack alone—haunting flute melodies over synth strings—sticks with you long after you turn it off.
