1992 Amiga cricket sim based on 1991 one-day rules. Play as bowler or batsman, control teams, 8 international squads. CPU or 2-player matches, 3 difficulty levels.
Ian Botham’s Cricket on the Amiga is one of those classic sports sims that actually makes you feel like you’re out on the pitch. You pick from eight real cricket nations—England, Australia, West Indies, the usual suspects—and jump straight into a one-day match under 1991 rules. At first, I had no clue whether to bowl or bat, but after a few overs, you get the hang of timing those swings or aiming your deliveries just right.
The controls are simple but surprisingly deep. As a batsman, you’ve got to judge when to swing, when to block, and when to sprint between wickets. Bowling’s all about nailing the power and angle—too slow, and the AI smacks it to the boundary. Fielding’s a bit chaotic, with your team scrambling after the ball, but that’s cricket for you. The CPU’s got three difficulty levels, so you can ease in or go straight for the hard stuff if you’re feeling brave.
It’s not flashy by today’s standards, but there’s something satisfying about the way the ball bounces off the bat or clips the wicket. If you’ve ever wanted to relive early '90s cricket without the leg pads, this is your game.
