Game Overview

So here's the deal in Jackal: Your guys got captured, and now they're rotting in enemy camps. Somebody's gotta go get 'em, right? Tanks are too slow, so they send in these little jeeps with a handful of soldiers—just enough firepower to sneak in, but not so much that losing them would be a disaster. (Though, let's be real, you're gonna lose a few jeeps.)

You control one of these jeeps from a top-down view, blasting enemies with machine guns (always shoots upward, which takes some getting used to) and lobbing grenades (upgrade to a bazooka later—way more satisfying). The goal? Drive around these maze-like battlefields, find your captured soldiers, load 'em up, and haul ass to the helicopter pickup zone. Oh, and then there's a boss fight. Because of course there is.

Fun thing about the NES version: It's not just a lazy arcade port. They rebuilt it with six proper stages, each ending with a big showdown, and tweaked enemy placements to keep arcade veterans on their toes. The jeep handles a little stiff at first, but once you get the hang of weaving through bullets while rescuing dudes, it's weirdly addictive.
