Play Jackal on Msdos Online
Drive your jeep, shoot enemies, rescue POWs, and clear maps in this classic arcade-style shooter from 1986.
Jackal came out in 1986 as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, published by Konami. It was a straightforward arcade-style shooter that fit right in with the kind of action games people played on their PCs back then, before complex stories or 3D graphics took over. You got what you paid for: a mission, a vehicle, and a lot of things to shoot.
You control a soldier driving a heavily armed jeep through a series of overhead-view maps. Your main goal is to drive into enemy bases, destroy everything that moves, and rescue prisoners of war held in tents before carrying them to a helicopter for extraction. The game progresses screen by screen; you clear one area of enemies and obstacles, then move on to the next. Signature mechanics include upgrading your jeepโs weapons by collecting power-ups dropped by certain enemies and carefully navigating narrow paths while avoiding fire from tanks and soldiers. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as enemy numbers and aggression increase. It feels tense and immediate, like every mistake could be your last.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
